KAYAKING KETCHIKAN'S COASTLINE

KAYAKING KETCHIKAN'S COASTLINE

This tour includes: • Round trip transportation from the cruise ship pier • 2-hour kayaking adventure along Ketchikan's historic waterfront • Exploration of the islands in Tongass Narrows • Visit to a bald eagle's nest • Instructions and equipment • Lots of great wildlife viewing and photo opportunities! Explore the wilderness, wildlife, and historic waterfront of Ketchikan by kayak. Watch for leaping salmon, seals, and whales as we paddle through islands in the Tongass National Forest. We'll visit an active bald eagle's nest and a salmon spawning stream. After receiving basic instructions for these user-friendly kayaks, you'll depart on this island-hopping tour, traveling in the protected waters around Pennock, Snow, and Gravina Islands. You'll paddle along the shoreline, sometimes gliding under huge branches stretching out over the water's edge. There is no experience necessary for this tour. The company has double kayaks, with triple kayaks available to accommodate one 6-8 year old in the center, so children can enjoy this tour as well. Center pods separate the paddlers on these fiberglass kayaks so travelers do not have to paddle in sync. We'll supply dry bags to protect your valuables, rain gear for inclement weather, and binoculars to help children capture wildlife with both their eyes and ears. This is a very interactive trip. Surprisingly, jellyfish and starfish populate the waters. The end of the tour will take you along the historic waterfront of Ketchikan and, if possible, also up Creek Street.

Before you begin, professional guides will instruct and outfit you with the best safety equipment in an open-air forest pavilion. Then the adventure begins as you ascend into the trees and gravity pulls you along the zip lines. Catch glimpses of bald eagles and the ocean below as you glide through old growth cedars, fly onto the Eagle's Nest, traverse a swaying log, swing across rope loops, and feel the speed and acceleration of landing on a one-of-a-kind ocean platform located 50’ over the water. Your high flying adventure ends as you descend the final zip line to our taproom deck. Here, you'll be treated to a handcrafted Alaskan brew as you take in our waterfront scenery.
